Ottawa Senators coach Paul MacLean thought this season was a great learning experience for his young team.
Ottawa Sun
"The adversity that this team faced, right out of the gate with Jason Spezza going down five games (into the season) and 10 games in Karlsson goes down, the growth our organization showed -- we got two years in one as far as development goes," said MacLean. "For our team to make the playoffs as a No. 7 seed and then to win the first round against a very good Montreal team, that just is great growth for an organization that is rebuilding. We learned some tough lessons here, but we took some good lessons from the Montreal series. If we can put them all together, it's just going to make us better down the road." The Senators can certainly be proud with how this season has gone. That being said, they might end up losing some of their veteran leaders for the 2013-14 campaign with Sergei Gonchar and Daniel Alfredsson both scheduled to become unrestricted free agents. Alfredsson isn't likely to entertain offers from other teams, but he might retire.
