Marincin's enjoying a strong rookie season | 03/27/2014 9:00 AM
NewsMartin Marincin's strong rookie campaign is looking like one of the silver linings in Edmonton's disappointing season.
ImpactThe Oilers have trusted Marincin with an average of 18:35 minutes per game and he leads the worst team in the Western Conference with a plus-two rating. He hasn't done much offensively and consequently isn't worth keeping an eye on in standard leagues, but he might prove to be a reliable defenseman with the Oilers for years to come.

We just talked about Sochi and how the season was going. I had never met him before, so that was exciting. Being on a team with Zdeno Chara will be great for me. I will try to learn from him and hopefully it will help me." Marincin will turn 22 during the Sochi games and has only one assist and a plus-one rating in 19 games since his recall in December but he does have some offensive upside.

ImpactMarincin has two goals and six points in 20 games this season. Those numbers obviously aren't going to make you scramble to get him, and if you're in a standard league that instinct is definitely correct. Still, he is worth keeping an eye on as he does have the potential to develop into a defenseman that puts up fantasy-worthy offensive numbers.
