He can play up and down the lineup. I don't see him as just a six-minute banger. Some people don't enjoy the way he plays against them, but he was well liked by our team." Nonis traveled all the way to Finland to speak with Komarov before free agency and the pesky forward spoke frequently about his preference to return to the Maple Leafs.

ImpactKomarov is a restricted free agent and is free to head to Russia if he pleases. Whether he's seriously contemplating it or not, the fact is that this will likely drive the price up for whatever contract Toronto had in mind. Coach Carlyle likes Komarov's versatility | 03/09/2013 2:19 PM
NewsLeo Komarov is third in the NHL with 105 hits in 25 games this campaign, but he's also been pretty good when called upon in the faceoff circle.
ImpactHe's lost just 12 times on 33 draws for a 63.6 percent success rate. "I played a lot of center when I was younger," said Komarov. "Maybe the last time I was 18. Then after that I only played when I was needed. But I like playing center. You get the puck more." The 26-year-old rookie has proven to be a versatile player for coach Randy Carlyle. He has an agitating style on the ice, but the room he creates hasn't translated into much offense for himself with one goal and four assists so far.

Leo Komarov scores first NHL goal vs. Habs | 02/10/2013 12:00 AM
NewsLeo Komarov scored his first NHL goal in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 6-0 win Saturday.
ImpactKomarov scored the game's first goal only 59 seconds into the first period. His new linemate, Nikolai Kulemin set up the goal with a pretty cross-ice pass that Komarov just had to tap into an open net. Komarov won't score 50 goals and is more of a pest than anything, but he could be worth a look in deeper leagues if he starts producing decent offensive numbers.

Leo Komarov 'a pain in the ass' teammate says | 01/18/2013 12:11 AM
NewsAmong the newest Maple Leafs on the Toronto roster this winter could be Leo Komarov, a 25-year-old forward.
ImpactIf Komarov makes the team, he is certain to be a nuisance for opposing East foes and likely to emerge as a fan favorite in Toronto. "He's a pain in the ass," smirked teammate Carl Gunnarsson, who has competed against Komarov internationally. "He never stops working, he keeps going." An Estonian who grew up in Finland, Komarov is a pest in the simplest terms, the very sort of tick known to drive an opposing team wild with a constant battery of rough and tumble hockey. "This is a player who's in your face all night," said Korbinian Holzer, a member of the German national team who also is in the Leafs' camp. "He knows which buttons he has to push to get you pissed off and get you going and get you off your game." A 2006 selection, Komarov won the KHL championship as a part-time captain with Moscow Dynamo last year, and he is intent on landing an NHL job.
Leo Komarov in a dogfight for NHL job | 01/16/2013 3:20 PM
NewsLeo Komarov is battling for a roster spot with Toronto at training camp.
Impact"The coach has got a big problem this year," said Komarov on Tuesday. "A lot of guys are here and only a couple of days to choose the team. It's going to be hard for the coach. It's going to be harder for the players. But I'm used to it. I love everything like this. It's a big competition out there." He worked with Matt Frattin and Jay McClement during Tuesday's practice, but he does possess the skill to play higher in the lineup. During the lockout, he skated on the same line as Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom in the KHL. On paper, Komarov seems like he would be a good fit on a Randy Carlyle-coached team because he finishes his hits, can agitate, penalty kill and chip in offensively. However, that doesn't guarantee him a roster spot.
