Kinkaid was serving as Martin Brodeur's backup while Johan Hedberg was dealing with a groin injury. Kinkaid has a 2.69 GAA and .906 save percentage in 43 AHL games this season.

He made 12 saves on 13 shots in New Jersey's 5-2 loss to Tampa Bay after Hedberg allowed three goals on just 11 shots. With Hedberg struggling mightily, it wouldn't be surprising to see Kinkaid start his first game Thursday night if Martin Brodeur isn't ready to return from a back injury.

The Devils may give Keith Kinkaid his first NHL start Tuesday, but for now there hasn't been a decision made on the matter.

"We're taking this day by day," coach Pete DeBoer said Monday after practice. "So, Hedberg tonight." Johan Hedberg will get the call for New Jersey Monday night at Toronto and he could very well start again Tuesday back home versus Tampa Bay. "I would love to get in one (game) and get my feet wet," said Kinkaid. "It's up to them to make the decision."

Kinkaid was recalled at first to provide the Devils with a practice goalie while Martin Brodeur rested his back. However, with Brodeur being placed on injured reserve Tuesday afternoon, Kinkaid will back up Johan Hedberg, who will start Thursday's game in Winnipeg.
