Former Penguins forward Jordan Staal got a standing ovation from the fans in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
"It was nice," Staal said. "I have good memories in this building and in this city and I appreciate that from the fans." Of course, it's easy for Penguins fans to swallow Staal's decision to turn down a contract with the Penguins and then be traded to Carolina. As good as Staal is, the Penguins haven't missed a beat without him and are certainly in a better cap position than they would have been had he re-signed. The Penguins have the top seed in the Eastern Conference while Carolina finished 13th in the conference.

Jordan Staal picked up a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win against the New York Islanders.
It was Staal's first marker since April 1st, which had amounted to an 11-game goalless drought. Alexanders Semin and Patrick Dwyer had Carolina's other regulation goals in the contest, while Eric Staal and Jiri Tlusty finished with an assist each. Riley Nash and Jeff Skinner scored in the shootout.

Jordan Staal has not had the kind of season he, or Carolina management had envisioned when he signed a 10-year, $60 million contract extension in the summer.
Staal has registered only 24 points in 40 games, which is similar to his production as a third-line center in Pittsburgh to his arrival in Carolina. Initially, Staal clicked with Jeff Sknner on the Canes' second line but since Skinner sustained a concussion, both he and Staal have been relatively inefective. For those of you who drafted Staal in keeper pools, you reasonably may expect him to increase his offensive output next season.

The 24-year-old forward is a fine hockey player but hasn't been able to convert his talent into consistent fantasy success with the Hurricanes. With the goal tonight, Staal now has 22 points in 34 games.

Over that time the club has been outscored 14-5 during five-on-five situations and 20-7 overall.

His seventh marker of the year was assisted by Joni Pitkanen and goaltender Dan Ellis. Staal snapped a four-game point drought in the process.

The former Penguin is definitely taking advantage of the more expansive role he has received in Carolina, generating 17 points in his first 23 games with the club. Drayson Bowman scored the other Hurricanes goal in the defeat.

Jordan Staal spoke Tuesday about the anticipation of playing against his former Pittsburgh teammates on Thursday night.
"It's going to be fun. Obviously I was there for a long time and I have a lot of fond memories with that organization," he said. "We'll be playing against a good team and there will be a lot of new challenges and it will be a good challenge for myself. It's going to be weird. I've seen it a lot, being in Pittsburgh and seeing other guys go. Now to be on the other side is a little different. It's just going to be fun to play against those guys and just try to beat them." Staal has picked up four goals and 11 assists in 18 games with the Hurricanes so far.

Jordan Staal and Alex Semin each enjoyed two-point nights in Carolina's 4-2 win over the Islanders on Sunday.
Staal and Semin each had a goal and an assist apiece. Staal might not have the goals (four) just yet, but he's proving what he can do with a full top-six slate of ice time, with 14 points in 17 games. Semin's goal was also his fourth, and he has 12 points on the year. Eric Staal and Bobby Sanguinetti had the other goals. Patrick Dwyer chipped in with two assists.

Jordan Staal tallied his first goal with the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night in a 4-1 win over Toronto.
His second-period marker evened the contest at 1-1. "It felt good. It was nice to get a goal to get us going, as well as my first as a Hurricane," he said. Staal also added an assist in the match to give him eight points in eight games this campaign.

Jordan Staal is earning plenty of praise in Carolina despite not being able to score a goal yet for his new club.
"He just makes us a better team," said brother and captain Eric Staal on Sunday. "He's a presence when he's on the ice, whether it's defensively or offensively. Controlling pucks, winning faceoffs, he's just a very solid, all-around player, and he's only going to get better. It takes a little bit to get it going." The 24-year-old forward has four assists in his past three games. Against Buffalo last Friday, he also chipped in five shots and six penalty minutes. He shouldn't have to wait much longer to find the back of the net with the Hurricanes.

Jordan Staal contributed two assists in Carolina's 6-3 win over Buffalo on Thursday.
He has three helpers in his past two games, but still searching for his first goal as a member of the Hurricanes. Staal picked up an assist on one of Jeff Skinner's two goals in the contest and he earned his other helper on a shorthanded marker by sophomore defender Justin Faulk. Jordan Staal and Skinner should provide some excellent secondary scoring behind captain Eric Staal this season.

Jordan Staal's Carolina Hurricanes debut was a night to forget.
Carolina fell behind 4-0 to the Florida Panthers and ended up losing 5-1. "We were kind of scrambling the first period and finally got our nerves on track and our legs going," said Staal. He didn't play during the lockout. He had two shots on goal and a minus-two rating in the losing effort.

For Jordan Staal, there's added disappointment with the lockout and how it has delayed his debut with his new team, the Hurricanes.
Staal was traded to the 'Canes from the Penguins at the 2012 draft, then signed a 10-year extension on the team his brother, Eric, captains. "It's been kind of frustrating a bit for me, coming to a new team and being excited about the season and playing in front of some new fans and being a part of a new organization," Staal said. "I haven't quite felt that yet. Hopefully it can happen soon."
