Martin Erat dislocated his left elbow in Game 4 of the Capitals' first-round series against the Rangers.
The winger was injured in a collision with Alex Ovechkin and the Rangers' Derek Stepan. This won't be an issue heading into next season; in fact, Erat said he would've been ready for Round 2 if the Capitals had advanced. "I feel better," Erat said. "It's kind of sad, you know, when I was getting ready to go back and I'm not going to be able to."

"I look at it, we played very well. We had a lot of chances," Trotz said. "The first star was their goalie (Semyon Varlamov). I can't think of anybody who played poorly."

Martin Erat and the Nashville Predators were left stunned by their performance early in Thursday's 7-4 loss to Phoenix.
It took Phoenix 8:26 minutes to jump to a 5-0 lead. "I have no explanation," Erat said. "We just didn't show up. These games are so important, and we just threw two points away." Nashville has 34 points in 34 games, which is good for ninth place in the Western Conference. They're two points behind the eighth place St. Louis Blues.

He exploded for a goal and two assists against the Flames after having a heart-to-heart talk with coach Barry Trotz before the contest. "We talked about just going forward and not looking back," Trotz said. "I was happy for Marty. He's such a big part of the Predators. This is his home. This is where he's been a big, integral part. He had more joy in his game today. I was happy to see him break out a little bit and have a smile on his face." Erat has 16 points in 30 games this year.
