Report: Tim Thomas still deciding on comeback | 06/05/2013 11:01 AM
NewsTim Thomas hasn't made a decision yet on a potential NHL comeback.
ImpactAgent Bill Zito reportedly told CBC's Elliotte Friedman that everything was "status quo" for his client and a decision has not been made. Friedman added that sources have said that Thomas is considering playing again, but he's not sure if it will be in North America or Europe. Thomas will be eligible for unrestricted free agency next month.
Tim Thomas will become a UFA this summer | 05/30/2013 5:56 PM
NewsAccording to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the New York Islanders won't be "tolling" the contract of Tim Thomas.

ImpactThat means he will become an unrestricted free agent this summer and can sign anywhere if he chooses. Thomas decided to take the 2012-13 season, which was shortened by the lockout, off but said he was interested in playing in 2013-14. His rights were acquired by the Islanders in exchange for a conditional draft pick.
Agent says no change in Tim Thomas' plans | 02/26/2013 4:18 PM
NewsTim Thomas' agent says nothing has changed with his client despite the New York Islanders' decision to demote Rick DiPietro.
ImpactThomas is expected to sit out the entire season but was traded to the Isles earlier in February in a financially motivated move. "Nothing's changed," Bill Zito told the Boston Globe. "I got a lot of calls and e-mails last week when (the Islanders) put (Rick) DiPietro on waivers. But nothing's changed with Timmy." Nothing to see here.
Tim Thomas 'comfortable' with trade to Isles | 02/08/2013 9:52 AM
NewsTim Thomas is "comfortable" with the trade to the Islanders, according to Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli.
ImpactThomas is still expected to sit out the season, and though there are rumors that indicate he'd only return to the NHL with the Bruins, he'll have to change his tune there if he does play hockey again, which Chiarelli says he's "contemplating." "I spoke with Tim to make him aware of this trade and he understood. He knew that this was the type of thing that I had talked to him about earlier on in the summer and in the fall, that this could happen," said Chiarelli. "He was comfortable with it and he sounded quite at peace with himself. [It was a] brief conversation, but I just wanted to talk a little bit about Tim because he was an important member of this team."
Tim Thomas trade might not cost Isles a pick | 02/07/2013 6:33 PM
NewsThe acquisition of Tim Thomas will only cost the New York Islanders a draft pick if he actually reports to them.

ImpactIn other words, if Thomas doesn't play, the Islanders don't have to give up a second rounder. The question now is if the Islanders will toll his contract in the hope that he decides to play in the 2013-14 campaign. As it is, the odds of Thomas returning this season are slim to none.
Islanders acquire suspended Tim Thomas | 02/07/2013 6:18 PM
NewsThe New York Islanders have acquired Tim Thomas in exchange for a conditional second rounder in 2014 or 2015.

ImpactThe Islanders need to get over the cap floor, so even though Thomas won't play this season, his salary has some value to them. Still, it will be interesting to see if the Islanders toll his contract in the hope that he will play for them in 2013-14.
Bruins set to suspend Tim Thomas | 01/14/2013 11:13 AM
NewsThe Bruins will officially designate Tim Thomas a suspended player shortly this morning.
ImpactThe club will be responsible for carrying the goaltender's $5 million prorated cap number, but he will not receive his $3 million in remaining salary. "We want to do it in a non-adversarial way," GM Peter Chiarelli said of suspending Thomas. "I've talked to the agent. We'll agree to some type of set of facts. That will be it." Under the new CBA all the teams are above the $44 million cap floor, so Thomas won't be traded to another seeking to add salary. In the summer, the Bruins will face the decision to either toll Thomas' contract for another season or allow him to become an unrestricted free agent.
Thomas is interested in playing next season | 01/13/2013 3:10 PM
NewsTim Thomas has interest in returning to the NHL in 2013-14.
CSN New England
ImpactThomas would also like to represent Team USA in the 2014 Olympics, but that's complicated. The NHL hasn't committed to playing in the Winter Games yet and Team USA might not take the aging goaltender after he skipped a season. If the NHL doesn't agree to play in the games then you might assume that Thomas would actually have the option of simply not playing in the NHL and joining Team USA as one of the few NHL-caliber players still on the squad, but that might not be the case. While his contract will end this season, the Boston Bruins are suspending him and have the option to toll his contract. In other words, the Bruins can control his rights for the 2013-14 campaign if they wish because he refused to play this season. If he does come back next season, it sounds like his preference is to play in Boston.
Confirmed: Tim Thomas wont play this year | 01/13/2013 12:18 PM
NewsBoston Bruins' GM Peter Chiarelli confirmed this morning that Tim Thomas will not be coming to camp or playing this year.
Official twitter account of the Boston Bruins
Impact"We'll end up suspending him. He will be on our cap unless I trade him," said Chiarelli. However, he did mentionned that Thomas wants to play next season. Starting goaltender Tuukka Rask is now a top-10 fantasy goalie option in every format with top-5 upside.
Tim Thomas leans toward continued exile | 01/06/2013 5:11 PM
NewsIt appears that the lockout hasn't softened Tim Thomas' stance on taking a break from the game.
TSN's Bob McKenzie
ImpactTSN's Bob McKenzie does say that the door has been left open for him to change his mind. Thomas' decision comes at an odd time in many ways, not the least of which is the fact that he's an aging goalie in the last season of a lucrative contract. If he snapped out of it, he could be a solid trade target for teams with short-term interests.
